[Solved] 2013 Toyota Highlander V6 timing chain replacement interval

Hello,

I have a 2013 Toyota Highlander V6 front wheel drive that I got in November and it's almost to 100,000 miles. The dealership told me that I need to have the timing chain replaced  as part of the 100,000 mile service and so far there are no signs it needs to be replaced. Is this, as well as spark plugs something that I need to get replaced? I bought this from a family friend so I know it's been well maintained

Wow either that dealership is just trying to rip you off, or that service advisor didn't have a clue of what she was talking about (maybe even both!). Yet another reason to take your car to a good independent mechanic, especially as it gets older and puts on miles.

Another question, how often should the transmission be drained and refilled? I saw on the Carfax report that the original owner had it done at 55,000 miles. I have 100,000 now and that was also something they suggested.

Thanks!

Timing chains don’t require changing like a timing belt. Spark plugs should be changed around 100k. If the dealership is selling a timing chain job as part of a routine maintenance, run away, go see an independent.

Thank you. That's what I thought. The girl even said it had a belt when she was going through her sell and that caused a bunch of doubt in itself. Lol

One easy way to tell if you have a chain or a belt. Look at the timing cover if it’s plastic it mostly has a belt if it’s metal or aluminum cover it most likely has a chain.
