Hey,
I have 2013 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado 150 with 152 000 km on it. How often do I need to change transmission fluid? The dealership says the transmission fluid should not be changed at all, which sounds a bit weird. What if I drive it till 500 000 km? I still don't have to change it?
Thanks in advance,
You should change it every 60k miles(90k kilometers). Do it now and just drain and refill. Do not flush it.
Why flushing is a bad idea?
It may ruin your transmission
You should change the transmission fluid. Don't listen to people who tell you not to at all. I suggest you change it once a year or every 50,000km to 80,000km no matter what especially if it's an automatic transmission as it uses the fluid not only for lubrication, but also for it to actually work.
Changing your transmission fluid is cheaper than replacing your transmission. Just make sure you get it done professionally by a good mechanic who knows what he's doing. Hope this helped out.
Thank you guys, that's what I thought. Not changing it at all just doesn't make sense. Maybe they want it to break down, so they can sell me a new one for 10k€.
You can drain and refill the trans by yourself - if you can pour a soda, you can drain and refill the trans!! Unless you just don't have the time or want to hassle with it... but make sure you find a shop/mechanic that will do you right if you don't do it yourself.
Flushing the trans fluid is not recommended as it can actually "flush" too well and end up causing slippage when operating. Over time debris finds homes in nooks and crannies in the trans and the computer etc adapts to its operation. Once that debris build up is removed, now there is more 'space'/tolerance/slop in the transmission.
