Is it just like that?

I have a 1998 Mitsuoka Galue with 67,000kms. Has a Nissan RB20E 2.0L in-line 6 engine with a 4speed automatic gearbox. When I turn on the AC, the AC compressor makes more noise than the engine it self but it works fine, blows cold air like normal. Is that normal? The AC compressor was replaced about a year ago by the way so it's on its 2nd compressor.

Can you upload a video demonstrating the sound? It is not normal for a compressor to make a lot of noise. However it puts a lot of strain on the drive belt system and the noise could well be coming from a pulley or tensioner.

Were the other components in the AC system replaced when the old compressor failed? Compressor failure contaminates the components with debris and if not replaced a new compressor can be ruined quickly. Also if it was a rebuilt unit those do not last. If the noise is really coming from your compressor you should disconnect it before more damage is done.

Errm how to attach a video here? Sorry I'm new to this website

I will say that when turned on, the compressor sound literally taked over the sound of the engine, it makes the engine sound high pitch when I rev it.

Upload your video to youtube or a file sharing site and post the link here.

How old is the belt? Sounds more like drive belt or pulley noise than anything else. I would remove the belt an spin all the pulleys and accessories by hand to feel for bearing roughness. (The compressor adds additional strain to the system.) Also turn the compressor by hand to feel for any roughness or binding. You need to turn the compressor clutch plate, not the pulley.

I suspect that it's the belt, if I'm not wrong, the belt wasn't changed in a very long time. (about 10 yrs I think). I'll bring the car to mechanic replace it soon.

Thanks for your help!

Yep, it sounds like an old belt.

Yes, definitely sounds like an old belt! 10 years is way too old, no wonder that poor thing is screaming bloody murder with the added load of the AC compressor!! (It really should have been replaced with the compressor.)
