Hey Scotty my mom was driving her 2014 Chevy Impala LTZ Limited today and the TPMS light came on and my mom says it comes on due to the weather. Is she right?
Nope. Either the tire pressure is low or the battery inside one of the tires is out.
… “due to the weather”? Big maybe, … my Honda does that, … but only if the temperature outside drops all the way down below a -25deg. C, overnight, car parked (actually, airbag light goes on at the same time, too!). But it all goes away after 2 - 3 kilometres of driving. But that’s Honda, … your mom’s chariot may be quite different.
Btw, … some cars have a two different warning lights for TPMS system: one for the sensors and one for the controller box under your dash somewhere. Hence, … just perhaps, it is a controller that is malfunctioning? Check this out, … owners manual should have a clear clue how your mom’s car is configured.
F.S.
Did you check the tire pressure? Air pressure decreases with temperature. So if the tires are right on the cusp of where they should be, then maybe cold weather is enough to set off the light.
