[Solved] 2014 civic lx vent hole in top of transmission

I have a 2014 honda civic lx that I noticed a hole next to the transmission fill plug (about an inch away).  It seems it should have a cap or a vent cover or something.  I went to the honda dealership parts department and he pulled up a diagram that did not show anything that would go there. He did not have any idea.  Any idea if I can plug this or is this a vent that should remain as is?  The area is recessed and I do not want debris falling into the transmission.  Please see image.

Thank you,

Ted

Checked my 2018, and daughter's 2021 HRV's earlier today.  Both have the same empty hole.

Looking closer, it doesn't appear to lead into the transmission.  Just a void in the case.

Can't imagine what purpose is served.  Maybe it's used as a guide during manufacturing.

You are correct. Closer inspection showed (better lighting) it was a void. I panicked for nothing. Thanks.

Well done. Marked as solved.

Sure looks like it needs vent to me act you know what I do if I were you get yourself some plastic tubing that just barely fits in there and epoxy it over so that the tubing takes a up and then a U-turn around so water won't get in there
