Hello I have 2002 ranger edge 3.0 216k miles. I've been having a sputtery engine at idle and a weird jerking/sputter on first startup when I tap on the gas. I was going about 30 mph then slowing down to turn. All the sudden I lost power steering and power. The engine completely cut off. The ranger started right back up. What could this be?

Well lots of things could do that could be a weak fuel pump could be ignition system cuts off fuel system cuts off. How I fix them as I drive them with my scan tool hooked up until they die then when they die it records that information and I play back and see what system died.

I've noticed when going up even small hills the engine will jerk/hiccup

Fuel filter, fuel pump, air filter, pcv valve.

OK in the past 15k miles I've replaced all except fuel pump however the truck did sit for a month before it started jerking so I think fuel filter may have gotten clogged up.
