2014 ford escape SE 108k mi wild windshield wipers wiping

I have a 2014 Ford escape SE with 108,000 miles on it. Recently while going down the highway on a ice sunny day, the windshield wipers came on all by themselves at a high rate and no matter what I did with the stick they didn't stop until I pulled off the side of the road and cut the engine. I restarted the car but the windshield wipers wouldn't come on when I moved the stick, but after awhile of driving, the wipers started going wild again until I cut the motor again to get them to stop. Started car again and this process continued numerous times. Sometimes when I start the car I can make the wipers come on at normal speed until they go wild.  Stopped at a  AutoZone and they had no clue other than selling me 2 new motors for $500. No trouble codes found on the simple scanner AutoZone uses. Would resetting the computer (disconnect the battery - which is a pain - I'm sure the engineer is still laughing about that) stop this problem or is it a symptom of something bigger?

Thanks.

Generally on those it is the wiper motor and circuit assembly you buy it as one piece. But if not that either the switch is bad or the body control module it would take a Ford probe with the dealer scan tool to figure that one out without guessing
