Hi Scotty,
I recently bought a 2014 Toyota Sienna with 122k miles. One of the features I noticed about the car is that it's missing the splash shield on the bottom. I live in the dry desert in Tucson AZ so I'm not as concerned moisture contracting the engine components. I plan to move to Seattle Washington where rain is more common. Should I purchase a splash shield for protection, or should I not be concerned?
I don't think it's there for moisture. It deflects road debris away from the oil pan and stuff.
Good point!
You can get after market ones pretty cheap. I have put them on several cars and they work fine. The holes may not always line up perfect, but zip ties fix that, and nobody can see it anyway.
Thanks for the advice!
I also like to spray them with rubberized undercoating sometimes, I figure it toughens the splash guards up a bit.
