2015 - 2018 Volvo V60 Reliability vs. Golf Sportswagen

Hi Scotty,

Just wanted to say thanks for all the helpful and entertaining videos. I've been a frequent viewer over the years and have always enjoyed tuning in. Wife and I are having a baby and looking for a family car. I've been underwhelmed by the performance of smaller/mid-sized SUVs and homed in on station wagons. I'm looking closely at 2015 - 2018 Volvo V60s and 2015 - 2019 Golf Sportswagens. I can get a newer Golf Sportswagen with less miles and often with a warranty for the same or even a better price relative to a year or 2 older V60 with no warranty and 20k - 30k more miles. The V60 feels better built and my gut is telling me will outlast the Golf Sportswagen. What's your take and how reliable are the 2015 - 2018 V60s (particularly the AWD ones)? Also, are there any items I should pay close attention to when inspecting one? Know you're a Volvo fan so thought you would be the perfect person to ask. Appreciate the thought.

I would fully expect the Volvo to outlast the Golf.

Whenever you find one you like, I would have a professional mechanic inspect it to verify it is in good condition prior to purchase.

I would consider the Volvo XC70 (and maybe the IMO gorgeous XC60) as well, here is Scotty's video on it

The Volvo is better than the VW by far, but just don't get one of those tiny turbo engines. Have you looked into something which is more reliable and maybe compromise on luxury, like maybe a first generation Toyota Venza? Its basically a Camry station wagon crossover.
