Took my chevy Trax to the mechanic because it was shaking and having issues , turns out the turbocharger went bad and the whole engine needs to be replaced . They said it would cost around 5.5k for a new engine with warranty on it should I fix it or get rid of it ?

I would get another opinion. Failure of the turbocharger shouldn't ruin the engine. (However if the turbo was ruined by never changing the oil that could certainly do it.)
In any event you'd be better off getting rid of it, those are not very good vehicles.
