I'm trying to help my buddy with his chrysler. The issue started with a parasitic power draw for a few months, then turned into a no crank no start condition, however the parasitic draw issue disappeared. You could hear the solenoid on the starter click, but engine would not turn over.
We went ahead and put in a new starter and it started right up and worked great for a week, then the same issue started up again with the no start. Same click from the solenoid, but no crank. Out of curiosity we took the original starter to O'reillys, they tested it 3 times and it passed each time.
Other things worth noting are the check engine light flashes after you hear the solenoid click. I scanned codes listed below
U0420-00 Invalid Data Received From power steering control module
C0051-54 Steering wheel position sensor missing calibration
U0415-00 Invalid data received from abs control module
C2129-13 battery voltage circuit open
If anyone has any information on what the heck we're dealing with any of it is appreciated.
Well realize this. I'm at relatively modern car. When you turn the key, it does not send 12 volts from the battery to the starter. The key itself is a 5 volt reference signal that then goes to computer modules and wiring and solenoids. Then eventually the computer has to decide whether it's going to crank the engine or not. Those things are so freaking complicated. It'll make your head spin. Or mine. I'd probably bypass the whole crappy thing and put a remote starter switch that would go from the battery to the starter to make it engaged and then pray there isn't some other computer problem that'll shut down the ignition system or fuel system. Basically, when those cars age their piles of junk I tell people never buy a Chrysler product
