RE:  When starting cold engine regardless the time of day. I drive off shifting into 1st gear, then a medium tapping/clacking noise is heard while accelerating with the pedal only thru 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear for the first 5 to 10 minutes. Then the noise will somewhat subside when the engine warms up. It's audible from both the driver and passenger side, underneath the front part of the cab(?) and engine. I change oil every 3,500 to 5,000 miles, twice a year(don't drive much).

I switched from using Costco 87 octane to Chevon 89 octane gas.  And to my surprise, there's been about a 75% reduction with the tapping/clacking noise.  Now, would I need to have the lifters/valves etc. adjusted to resolve this issue?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.  Thx! to all.

Mileage?

Can you make a YouTube video of the noise & post the link here?

Mileage @ 85,952. Have also noticed consumption of gasoline has balanced out.

Odds are the timing chain or tension is worn if you do have high mileage you got to decide you want to rebuild the engine or get another vehicle or put another engine those engines have a limited mileage ready last customer of mine with one his engine crapped out at about 99,000 MI
