My fiance has a 2015 Nissan Sentra that she bought from CarMax 4 years ago. The transmission just went out and it is going to cost $4,700 to replace. Is it worth it to fix? She still owes $4,100 for it to be payed off. There are no other issues with the vehicle.

If she can, she should find out how much those companies ( CarMax or Carvana,... ) pay for it as is. I have heard they buy cars without checking. If the offer was something she was happy with, go ahead. Spending good money on a 7 years old Sentra does not make much sense.

150k miles? Lasted much more than average.

$4,700 to replace (...) owes $4,100

Find a tranny for cheaper.

I'd replace the tranny, consider it is like buying a new used car since that's what a Sentra is worth.

And I'm unsure how the book value is related to the actual value, pretty much, it's like buying a Sentra.

You probably can get another 50k miles out of this car with a new tranny.

just make sure the new tranny is warrantied, I'm seeing a lot of brand new transmissions fail.

She bought the car from CarMax and owe's them the money for it so I'm not sure if she'd be able to have them buy it back.

And the transmission was already replaced 1 time before she bought it. I have looked at 5 different transmission specialists and a lot of them will not repair CVT transmissions. I will keep looking for something cheaper though.

Do you think anybody would buy this car as is? It still runs but going over like 40mph doesn't really work

Have you tried changing the transmission fluid? sometimes it helps TEMPORARILY 'resolves' these issues.
