2015 VW vs 2002 Ford

Greetings! My wife and I had planned on gifting our 2015 VW Passat Wolfsburg Edition with 127,000 miles and the 1.8 TSI to our son as he has just turned 16. A friends grandma has passed away and her 2002 Ford Focus sedan with 65,000 miles may be available on the cheap. The Ford has been garaged and is well maintained. The VW has been maintained but burns a little oil and needs the front suspension rebuilt. The suspension work and the Ford are approximately the same price. What to do? Thanks for the input!

Neither is a really compelling choice. Here's an idea of what you can expect from the Focus:

The VW is not great either, but you do already have it:

However if the VW is burning a lot of oil that will wind up poisoning the catalytic converter ($$$$).

Sell the VW and use the proceeds to buy a good condition Corolla or Civic.

All the best!
