I have a 2016 Ford Fusion with the 2.0 Ecoboost and automatic tranny. Has 96k miles. Started throwing a P0304 misfire code. Switched coils and code remained, so I figure it wasnt the coil. I changed the plugs and plug on cylinder 4 was very sooty and had wet oil on it. Changing the plugs cleared code for a while, but now the code has returned. Idle is also now slightly rough, and both tailpipes are sooty around the edges. Gas mileage hasn't changed noticeably. Runs great under easy or hard throttle. Wondering if it could be an injector, PCM, valve seal, etc? Leary of dumping a bunch of money into it with almost 100k miles.
Thoughts?
Honestly you’re starting to see the reality of those Ecoboost motors. They just aren’t great for longevity. I’d get a solid diagnosis from a mechanic who is familiar with the Ecoboosts. My opinion though would be with almost 100k on the motor get rid of it and steer clear of Ecoboost motors.
