2016 honda CRV, slow getting to engine operating temperature

Hi Scotty, I'm a big fan from Ottawa Canada, I have a 2016 honda crv with 67800 km. I noticed just recently when the temperature went way down to -26 to -35 that it would take a bit longer than usual to get to operating temp. Usually after 5 to 10 mins the temp would already reach just below halfway as usual but when it's really cold it stays just a quarter away from C for 20 mins before getting to the usual level. However days with temperatures that are warmer (-13 to -17) it was back to normal getting to just below halfway in 5 to 10 mins. I thought it was the thermostat stuck open so I started the engine cold and opened the coolant to check and it wasn't flowing or anything to it may not be stuck. What could be the problem? Or could it be that it was just too cold? Is this normal?

If your fan ins't running and the thermostat is closed - that's most likely normal.

You're lucky that you have a 2016 Honda, the 2017-up have the worst heating system in the industry ( I've never seen a bigger mess than Earthdreams systems), a lot of engines that can't reach operating temperature, and lots of other cold weather related faults.
