Hey Scotty, I have a 2016 Toyota Avalon XLE 3.5L V6 with 35,000 miles. I want to change my coolant based off of its age. Would you recommend ONLY OEM fluid, or could I go to an Auto Parts store and get some 50/50 premixed coolant specifically for Toyota & Lexus products such as this one: https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/ZRX675130&source=gmail&ust=1706646589196000&usg=AOvVaw0i9T7jA_JTizjb-mygwNy w"> https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/ZRX675130  ?  I know you recommend some fluids to remain OEM, like transmission fluid for example.

Thanks for your help!

The Car Care Nut recommends genuine Toyota coolant, a few extra bucks every 7 years. I changed the coolant in my 2015 Avalon and my daughter's 2013 Avalon using it and following the method in his video. Good luck.

And in another video the car care nut is more emphatic about the use of OEM coolant.

Would you recommend ONLY OEM fluid

what's the difference in price?

It’s $18 a gallon from NAPA, and $30 a gallon from Toyota’s parts department. They say it’ll take 2.5 gallons at my independent shop so I’ll have to buy 3.

That’s quite a difference. I would get the Napa stuff if it says it’s compatible. Coolant isn’t as critical as atf for example. By the way, coolant is usually cheaper when you buy concentrate.

Yes I would recommend use the OEM fluid. It is in pink color. But you don't have to go to the dealer and buy it. You can go to any auto parts store and buy coolant specifically for Toyota/Lexus/Scion and it will be in Pink color. They sell those at auto parts store. Pink Coolants lasts a lot longer than the green coolant.
