Hey! Hope your having a great day. I am the happy owner of a 2017 Hyundai Elantra. However, with just over 110,000kms the problems begin.
About 3 months ago I started the car and it misfired. Engine light came on, i got code PO30100 & B111216 so i decided to replace the spark plugs. ( The old spark plugs in cylinder 1 & 2 were black and gunked up pretty bad also the coils were dirty) Now just recently, within the last month, the car will occasionly make a grinding sound on cold start up. I live on a island in the middle of the atlantic ocean, in Canada,,,, so theres alot of corrosion. Could this attribute to the problems ?
Car has the 2.0L NA engine. Only maintenance ive done is replace the spark plugs and oil change ever 6000kms with synthetic oil. Also replaced the stock muffler with a after market one.
Heres a link to a video of the noise...

My 17 Elantra made the same sound and it was the tensioner pulley rattling on start up my car has 127,000miles and runs like a champ and doesn’t burn a drop of oil it could be something simple you need to have someone diagnose it for real and not just listen on a video different things sound the same
Unfortunately it had numerous engine problems with all the Hyundai's especially the 2 l engine the quality control is not that good an engine with that small amount should not make that noise there is internal engine wear if you can whine at Hyundai see if they will fix anything under warranty
But to be completely honest with you that sounds perfectly normal they all make a lot of noise when they’re cold look up 2017 ELANTRA engine noise and you were here they all pretty much make a lot of noise like that and if you’re in Canada where it’s incredibly cold I can almost guarantee that’s what it is try 5W 30 and see if that helps helps
Just because they all do that, doesn’t make it normal. Their quality is indeed extremely poor.
