2018 Honda Civic Touring: I noticed oil (I think it was oil) on the rear of the skid plate when I removed it to do an oil change. There was also oil directly above the spot on the skid plate. I brought it to a mechanic. He cleaned off the spot above the skid plate. He  could not find the source of the leak. Any thoughts as to what it could be?

He  could not find the source of the leak.

Did he use UV dye to try to find it?

@chucktobias I purchased due to see if I could find the leak. I put it in the engine. No dye. So I put some dye in the transmission. No dye came out of the transmission either. What could I be missing?

Some motor mounts have oil inside them and begin to leak oil as they begin to deteriorate. This won't show up with a dye test. Good luck.

I don't think he used UV dye to find it.

Thank you Chuck!

@chucktobias I purchased dye to see if I could find the leak. I put it in the engine. I didn't find any dye in the fluid that if leaking. So I put some dye in the transmission. No dye came out of the transmission either. What could I be missing?

@jasondshute You might need a brighter UV light and special glasses if you're not already using them.
