2019 Avalon Engine Issues

My 2019 Toyota Avalon 45,000 miles VIN: 4T1BZ1FB5KU003433 automatic is at Toyota Knoxville.
When I started it Wednesday night warning lights came on message was “engine running slow.” It would almost stop & then go hesitantly. Next morning I had an appointment for routine maintenance, it started, but would not move. Had it towed to Toyota. They have not been able to determine the problem after running diagnostics several times. They said they are going to take the engine apart! ( put it back together & reinstall) It is under warranty until 2024.

I bought it used in December of 2020. It had approximately 35,000 miles on it. Bought from Toyota Knoxville.

Should I ask for a new engine? Should I trade the car in? What is a smart option?

Thank You,

Margo

They (or whomever) needs to diagnose the problem first before tearing the engine apart.  Is it fuel delivery related, electrical, low compression, broken parts?  Get these questions answered so you can make an intelligent decision.  Don't just let them manipulate you into doing what they want, warranty or not.

They're not just tearing it apart for sh@ts and giggles, probably directed by Toyota for the warranty work. They have to go thru the process and see how it goes. If it's still not right, then you'll likely get a new engine. Figure out your course of action once you have the car back and see how it is after the work is done, and decide then what to do.

I still would not trust them.  If they say you need a new engine, they are not going to rebuild yours.  They will probable get a used one and tell you it's new.
