Hi Scotty,
I took my 2019 F150 SXT 2.7L ecoboost in for its 2nd oil change at 9300 miles. Was asked if I did towing because the transfer case fluid needed to be changed. Normal frequency is 30k miles. I am towing a boat, single axle, probably 4000 lbs boat and trailer, maybe less. I towed the boat about 2000 miles total last summer, temperatures about 95' outside.
Is this normal? I am prepared to do my own fluid change to save money, but is there something I am missing with this vehicles capabilities?
Thank you,
CCIdaho
Just curious, but why did the shop/dealer decide to look at the transfer case fluid at only 9300 miles? Kind of suspicious...because this sounds like an upsell tactic. This is why I don't like going other places for oil changes...they start snooping around with the other fluids just to upsell more fluid changes.
For the first oil change for the transfer case, I would not worry about it but keep eye on that. Inspect the fluid with the next oil change and if it is dirty again, have them fix replace the transfer case under warranty.
