Hello Scotty,
I have a 2019 Honda Civic LX with the 2.0l engine with 35,000 I change the oil regularly and baby this car. I have noticed that my oil smells a little bit like gasoline is this normal or is this a sign of the oil dilution problems found in the newer Honda Civic models.
Personally it’s worth it to me to change it on the old 3K schedule. 4k max. Those smaller engines have a lit harder life pushing the horsepower they do. Change more frequently and you’ll thank yourself later. Your engine will to.
Thanks I will start doing the oil changes every 3-4K miles instead of every 5-6k
It probably does have a little oil dilution if you are smelling it in the oil. I have some in my 2020 Accord with the 2.0T. I just change my oil every 5k miles and don't push it further than that. Frequent oil changes like that really minimize any damage that would occur over time.
Those naturally aspirated 2.0 engines are not known for the oil dilution problems but it is a common characteristic of modern Honda engines. Don't stretch oil changes that far, 5-6k max.
I am surprised that engine is experiencing that. It is a naturally aspirated and port injection 2.0L engine; it does not have GDI from what I understand. Anyways, in addition to the more frequent oil changes mentioned see below for other ways to mitigate oil dilution:
