I heard from a car guy friend that the bmw b58 engine is a straight six and therefore a good buy because it's not like the other bmw engines and so I googled it and the b58 was introduced into bmw's newer m340i model and I was wondering if it  could be a good buy because I'm kind into those sporty cars. Can I get an opinion on the b58 engine and if it would mean that it's okay to buy a m340i?

That B58 I6 is an overall good engine (and a slightly detuned version sits in the Toyota Supra), but it’s all the rest of the over engineered German tech around it you have to worry about as it ages and racks up the miles.  You always have to look at the whole picture not just the powertrain.  This engine is also turbocharged GDI and still very complex, and if something does go wrong it can cost a small fortune to fix.  If you really like it, I would highly recommend to lease it and keep under the bumper to bumper warranty and then give it back.  Then that way you are not responsible for any repairs on your dime.
