Why is my 2020 Honda Fit running lean?

Hi. I have a 2020 Honda Fit, 9000 miles, 4 cylinder. I was curious if it has been running rich since the tailpipe is always black. I put a scan tool on it and it shows the long term fuel trim as +9.0% and short term at +7.0%.

Is this “normal” or should it be closer to 0? Should I take it to the dealer?

Thank you!

Well for a car that new those are relatively high trends but realize the trims are adding fuel which means your car is actually running lean. I would take it in you something to squirrely the figure shuts running lean but black shows it's running rich so it's not running correctly

Thank you Scotty!

If it’s still under warranty, yeah, take it in and have them look at it.

Are there any other symptoms besides the black tail pipe?

No other symptoms really besides the dirty tailpipe. I’ve seen other Fits that have the same dirty tailpipe. I just can believe that it would be “normal”.

You could try running a bottle of injector cleaner through it to see if the fuel trims normalize.  Good luck with the dealer.
