Hello Scott! Huge fan from Co-Op City the Bronx NY! I never seen a Hyundai Kona being featured on your channel before, but I’d figured i still ask the car guy! I have a 2020 Kona SEL (AWD) with the 2.0L 4 Cylinder, got it used at 21,600 miles in 2022, it currently has 29,107 miles, no lights on the dash, but sometimes vehicle is sluggish especially at a green light or a stop sign. And high RPMs when accelerating, slow acceleration, and possible transmission slippage. But other than that does great on the highway at 65 MPH, and drives relatively decent as a car from point A to B.

Please see attached Google Drive link for the video of the ticking noise on my Kona.

Now the past 3,000 miles or so, the engine has a ticking sound, almost sounding like a diesel engine when it Idols. I took it to the Hyundai dealer 3 times, even a dealer 30 miles away, and every time it comes back, they say the engine is running normal, and the ticking sound is the injections and most Hyundais have it, and that I have “nothing to worry about”

I’ve also checked my vin number on the Hyundai website to see if I got the recall, and I have no open recalls, but it seems that the owner before me got the engine replaced for this vehicle back in 2021 due to the recall for bad piston rings on 2018-2020 Kona’s with the 2L 4 cylinder engines.

Is this something I should be worried about, and at 29,100 miles should I just continue to drive it normally until the wheels fall off or let the engine fail on its own?

Well I would just drive until the wheels fall out myself because they're pretty crappy vehicles. As you can see they replaced the original engine but with that there's no saying what they did. Sometimes they use junkyard engines. Sometimes they fix the problem. The engines are crap to begin with. I wouldn't put any money into it. I would just drive it until the wheels fall off
