Good Morning Scotty
I'm leasing a 2020 Nissan Pathfinder SL Rock Creek with 35K miles on it. The engine is pinging/knocking no matter if I'm using 87 Octane or 93 Octane gas. It's most noticeable in second gear ( Yes I know CVT ) - but you can feel the shift - and 2K rpms - Any type of load - hill climb - 4 adults in the car - the knocking/pinging is much easier to hear. The pinging isn't the only issue but getting hesitation as well as the knocking showing that it's misfiring. Nissan is saying it normal condition - not to me. I hear it every time I drive it.
The second issue - is - I have a whistle that comes from under the engine/transmission between 1500 and 2K rpms. which can be repeated constantly.
The last issue - transmission bounce ( CVT ) and when breaking from 50 down to about 25mph - transmission/engine is still pushing the truck - once you reach 20mph - the torque converter disengages - under panic situations the truck is still feeling like your on the gas pedal.. A bit disconcerting. THe transmission bounce happens in stop and go traffic - which is 5 days a week around 20mph..
Thoughts ? Nissan is saying normal operation !
Lenny
While under warranty the dealer would say it was normal if your wheels fell off. You can try another dealer or escalate to Nissan corporate. Maybe take it to an independent mechanic that has a really good scan tool like Scotty uses to for examination to see what's really going on.
If it's pinging and knocking it sounds like the cam positioning sensors are failing and throwing off the ignition timing so it's too far advanced. It's possible. A good scanner should be able to show the live data.
Agree - I filled a case with with corporate Nissan. I have seen there is a campaign supposedly starting for the engine knocking/pinging
Ordered a Bluetooth ODB2 scanner - recorded my trip to work - Cylinder 1 - 7 mis-fires, Cylinder 2 - 37 mis-fires, Cylinder 3 - 19 mis-fires, cylinder 4 - 57 mis-fires, cylinder 5 - 31 mis-fires, cylinder 6 - 93 mis-fires.. Doesn't look too normal to me
Dealer replaced all injectors, cylinders 3 and 5 misfires improved the others did not. Still waiting on corporate customer service to find out what the next steps are. I personally think k they need to replace all coils and spark plugs. Once they get all the misfires fixed hopefully they can fix the transmission shudder!
