My 2021 Tacoma automatic V6 does not come with an external transmission cooler as Tacomas previous to 2019 years have. I tow a 3,500lb RV. Should I add an external cooler? What do you advise?
Thank You, David527
I wouldn't add one Toyota pretty much knows what they're doing you can actually run a transmission too cool and cause problems
I am told by a service tech that modern transmissions with all their speeds and additional planetary stages, are able to make more generous use of torque converter lockup, which drastically reduces operating temps, thus negating the need for additional coolers.
If it were me, I would use an OBD device to monitor transmission temps to see if additional cooling is necessary. If you're not towing heavy loads up mountains then chances are you don't.
