What do you think of the 2021 Acura TLX and the upcoming TLX Type S? My parents have a 2016 TLX 2.4 base model and I think the 2021 TLX is a huge improvement. Especially the interior.

Newer Acuras aren't that amazing with reliability as Honda's reputation suggests. The 10 speed automatic is particuarly troublesome short term, I don't know about the engine (@daywalker might be able to help you out there) and long term reliability isn't known but evidently not great.

Then again, you already have a TLX. From what I see the 2016 is very modern and you know the history of it so I personally would keep that. If you think the new one is a huge improvement, what about a lease? You would experience the modern TLX with its "improvements" without risking owning a car with questionable reliability. If you please to do so, you could always buy it when the lease ends;) In the end, the Acura TLX is still a decent car compared to its European competitors and its your money so you might try your luck out.

I like them, but I also liked (and nearly bought) the previous model.

I have always been a fan of the TLX and the new TLX Type S is very exiting because its better than the A-Spec model. Acura is backed by Honda's quality and reliability so they are very reliable cars. As far as the new TLX Type S Maybe its a good idea to get a later generation model since it is so new. The new interior is a big step forward compared to what they had before.
