[Solved] 2021 Toyota Corolla Hybrid Or 2021 Honda Insight

Hello Scotty,
Trying to decide between the two. I like to keep cars for as long as they run. So I want my selection to last me for over 150,000 miles if I take proper care. Which one would you recommend?
The insight "looks" nicer both inside and outside, but I cannot figure out if it will last longer and be more trouble free than the Corolla Hybrid.
Thank you so much for any help!

The Corolla would last a lot longer by far, like the Prius. The Insight seems like too big a risk garbage resale value bad transmissions etc. I would go Toyota by far unless you will sell the Insight at 70 80k miles.

Neither will be trouble free after 10 12 years though. Keep that in mind because of generators and batteries, and with the Insight, the troublesome CVT.

Just my opinion; Toyota's hybrid tech is superior. My father has a 7th Gen Camry Hybrid. What a car!

I would say of the two, the Corolla is the safer bet. However, any hybrid over 150k miles can be an expensive car to keep on the road as the batteries start to fail. Just keep that in mind.

The Corolla Hybrid is basically a Prius without the hatchback.  Sure there are differences, but they share the same platform.

I have a 2004 Prius, and it's going on 295K miles.  Yes, I did have to change the battery, but there really hasn't been any major problems with the vehicle over the years.  So if you are looking for tried and true technology, the 2021 Corolla would be your best bet.

With that said, the 2021 Honda Insight looks compelling.  It is a different type of hybrid than the Prius and the older Insight.  At lower and mid range speeds, it drives more like an electric car than it does an ICE or a hybrid, because the ICE generates the electricity, rather than driving the wheels.  It only drives the wheels at freeway speeds, but it cannot drive the wheels at lower speeds.

Fair warning, the Insight is new tech, so you don't know how it's going to go.

How long does it take you to get to 150,000?

Thank you so much for all the replies!

I’d say 10 to 12 years.
