Hello i am looking for information on reliability for the 2023 honda pilot vs a toyota highlander. Based on everything i have seen the pilot seems to be the better pic. What is your take on this? We need a reliable 3 row suv with awd & donot want a hybrid.
Highlander only comes with 4 cylinder now. Either hybrid or turbo.
If you want the V6, get a Pilot. Otherwise the turbo Highlander.
I would recommend hybrid Highlander, but it doesn’t seem you are interested in a hybrid.
Pilot’s might be easier and cheaper to get, since there is a price premium and high dealer markup for the Highlander’s.
I think the Highlander has a slight edge on long term reliability, but not so sure of the pricing would justify it.
I would have to run the actual numbers to give a more accurate assessment.
They are both too new to know how reliable they will be in the long run. I would pass on both and go for a 2022 Toyota Highlander when they still offered the naturally aspirated V6. AWD was available. And, yes, no one knows how long that one will last as well but being a few years in that generation the kinks would presumably be worked out and at least you are dealing with a naturally aspirated engine that’s been out for some time. Jury is out though on the 8-speed automatic transmission longevity.
.
All modern cars are not going to be as reliable as they used to be, unfortunately, so it’s a matter of drinking the lesser poison if you have to buy a new or newish car today.
