Should I buy a 2024 Toyota BZ4X?

Hi Scotty,

I currently drive a 2004 Toyota Highlander in NYC with 180k miles. I am thinking about buying the 2024 Toyota BZ4X as the second car for the family. Next year the 2024 model will be 3 years old (most leases end after 3 years) and I might be able to get one with 30-40k miles for 15-17k$. Guarantee is 10 years on those cars. I know the bad reviews based on slow charging and subpaar range. I am not planning to roadtrip it and want to use it as a daily driver with home charger. Do you think this would be a good value for buck? 2023 had some issues that seem to be solved in the 2024 edition. My goal is a trouble free low maintenance car that just works for my use case. Usually I would buy another used Highlander but 15-17k for an almost new Toyota EV seems like a steal to me.

Thanks for your feedback

Stan

Seems like a steal on the surface. The problem with battery EVs is the huge bill you get after those 10 years to replace the battery, and the dismal resale value that comes with it (people don't want them). Also you'll be tied to your dealership for service as nobody will know how to work on the electric power train, and dealers are $$$$. A level 2 charger will set you back an additional $1k+.
