2025 RAV4 Rustproofing

I’m buying a new 2025 Toyota RAV4.  Dealership is obviously trying to sell me on rustproofing and undercoating.  I plan on keeping the vehicle for 5-10 years, and I live in Ontario, Canada so snow and lots of road salt is a factor.  Should I go ahead with either of these options?  If yes, should I pay for dealer to undercoat and/or rustproof or go somewhere else to have it done, or do it myself?

Thanks, Michael

Thanks. What about undercoating though?

Scotty typically answers questions once and doesn't revisit them. He's stating that Toyota's process is one of the best "in the world" in rust prevention(including the frame). The dealer is a "scumbag" for trying to sell you something you do not need.

Scotty generally doesn't return to topics he has already answered.

Undercoating is hard to get right and you can bet your sweet bippy that the dealer will not. Improperly applied undercoating can trap moisture and make matters worse. That dealership is just trying to rip you off. (It's what they do.)

You would be better off finding a shop that will spray rust-retardant material like Fluid Film, Krown, or Woolwax underneath your vehicle each year. In an area like yours it shouldn't be tough to find a place like that.

Well, they're a bunch of scumbags. Toyota. Does some of the best rust proofing in the world went the factory? When I build them. My entire body is soaked in paint. That's electrostatic so it is electronically bonded even to the inside of the frame. Don't give those scumbags any money. Just basically rinse your car off a lot when there's salt in the road in the winter

@scottykilmer Thanks. What about undercoating though?  I think it’s some kind of rubberized material.  Hard to rinse underside.
