Fram makes oil filters that claim to last for 25,000 MI considering that I usually change my engine oil every 7000 MI can I go for three oil changes on the same filter or is it a bad idea

Maybe, but I don’t think anyone who loves their car would trust it.

I suppose it’s different from extended mileage oil.  With oil, even if the oil itself holds up, you still have to worry about oil dilution, leaks, burning, and dirt/contaminants.  IMO, trying to go much over 5-6000 miles on oil is asking for trouble.

With a filter, I don’t think there is as much to go wrong; if your filter media has enough useful surface area and can handle that number of heat cycles, it might be alright.

But what if your 25000-mile filter gets fouled 5000 miles in?  How many miles could you drive before you realize there’s a problem?  It would make me nervous.

Besides, you’ll have to change the oil before then, and the cost of a regular filter doesn’t add that much to the overall cost of maintenance.

So I think Scotty’s adage that “oil is less expensive than a new engine” applies to filters too.

The only time I would think it makes sense is  have one of those weird Porsche’s where you have to drop the motor to change the oil filter or something.

That sounds like an amazingly terrible idea.

But why? It take a minute to replace.

three oil changes on the same filter

This thing costs 3x as much.

Wouldn't you rather just have a fresh clean filter in there every time, for your clean oil?

It was only double the price of the regular 10,000 mile oil filter

Pinch pennies elsewhere.
