1988 toyota 4runner 22re 5speed . 338k miles, i have also replaced the wiring harness before. I also rebuolt the motor about 5k miles ago. i have a 4amp draw. Did the test with a multimeter and tried pulling each fuse one by one. No change . I disconnected the alternator, and there no change. No lights on all aftermarket wiring disconnected from battery termanial. Brand new battery . Alternator is 2 years old . If the truck is on and I hit the gas the charge light comes on then goes off when it back to idle . Any ideas ? I love your videos on YouTube btw.
it has to be going somewhere. Did you try unplugging the starter?
Yes. The only thing left on battery was the 80amp fusable link to the engine bay fuse box.
try disconnecting that
I tried pulling all fuse. Relays. Unplugged starter. Unplugged the alternator. Nothing.
If I disconnect the 80amp yes it goes away but that's the only thing left on the battery. That wire runs from battery to engine bay fuse box. It's not groinding out anywhere .
I think you're going to need to find a power distribution schematic
SOLVED: It was the alternator. Makes zero since. I pulled the plug and power wire to the alternator. Maybe I should have pulled the ground. But it's fixed.
ground shouldn't make a difference. It could depend on the position of the armature in the alternator. I often see the alternator be the culprit on this forum
