Is it a good idea to buy a teenager a brand new Toyota 4runner?

Don't buy anything until he/she can pay for the insurance !

Being a bad parent is a sign of not having learned from experience, go ahead! 4Runners are excellent trucks, … very true!

I don't think it's a good idea to buy a teenager a new anything. They are going to learn to drive with their first car. Do you want to spend all that money just to have them hit a curb too hard, bump something, etc. and scuff it up?
Used is cheaper and there are plenty for a lot less than you would pay for a new one. I would go that route so I wouldn't get upset the first time their drunk friend gets sick in it, fast food gets on the carpet, they get door dings, their first fender bender, etc. Plus insurance will be cheaper too.

Bought my daughter a Honda Accord when she turned 16 (safe car and made her pay for half hoping she would take car of it). Thank God for a place called Certi-Fit ended replacing right front fender fist year left front fender and hood second year and the third year boy friend enters picture, well things happen for a reason.. right front fender and hood again.. was going to repaint car every time I finished body work but could not find the time.. like I said things happen for a reason... paid 2600 for the car and my daughter drove for eight years now engine issue starting to pop up. She has over heated twice, replaced head gasket then theirs a o ring under oil filter on engine block that blew caused it to dump all the oil... she ran it for 20 miles with no oil... thank God it still ran a for two years after that till I sold it for 650.00 a carmax. What was the Question Agian? Would I by my teenager a new car.. Hmmmm...
Call up your insurance agent and find out what the cost is for insuring a new one vs. an old one. P.S. Be sure to be sitting down when you do this.
It's a good vehicle. As for parenting... make them walk! jk, your call as society and cultures vary sooo much...
4Runners are excellent vehicles. But they’re very expensive for their class. Especially used ones. I would look into getting him a 4th gen 4R. If you can find one that’s been taken care of buy it.
