Hello Scotty. Your channel is fantastic.
A local dealer has a 2008 Lexus IS 250, 257172 km (160,000 miles) 2.5 L 6 CYL. manual 6 SPEED transmission, fully loaded interior (Leather etc) which came in as a trade, and they are selling as is (no safety and no warranty) they say due to high mileage. It's $3000.00 Canadian. I will mostly be using it on the highway.
Is this too good to be true?
What is the benefit of a dealer taking in a car that they themselves will not safety or warranty?
Should I buy it and try to fix it elsewhere?
Thanks!

Have it inspected by an independent mechanic. Odds are, there are a lot of little maintenance items that the dealer doesnt want to pay for and so they are just selling it cheap as is. They probably gave $1000 for it.
Definitely wait to decide until you have it inspected. If they won't let you take it to an independent mechanic, pass on it.
