Hi Scotty,
I have a 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder with ~160k miles and a 5 speed manual. Pushing the clutch in while in neutral causes an unpleasant turbine-like noise. As I let off the clutch to engage into gear I get vibrations and grinding/screeching noises. However, the car will go into gear and once I'm in gear the noises stop and I can accelerate and drive in that gear without any issues. After I parked there was smoke coming from the engine bay presumably from the clutch or transmission. I searched online to see if anyone else had this problem but I couldn't find anything. I would appreciate your help Scotty.
Regards,
Misha
Get a new clutch.
When was the last time you had your clutch replaced?
Sounds like you need a new clutch kit, since multiple parts seem worn out -
