I have a 2019 4runner sr5 that makes a whining noise that changes with rpm. I hear the noise when I rev the car in park, I also hear noise when I accelerate as well as coasting in gear. it has about 84k miles and just changed transmission fluid, engine oil, diff fluids as well. It was quiet at first but got louder and more frequent very quickly. Where could this be coming from?
Where could this be coming from?
It could be coming from a lot of places. Have you checked belt-driven accessories and pulleys for worn bearings?
@chucktobias I haven’t yet, is that where to look first? Also is it safe to keep driving if it’s the bearings?
@idahobearman A belt-drive accessory would be the prime suspect. It is not safe to drive if you have a bad bearing there since it could seize up at any time and leave you stranded in a bad situation.
A quick test is to very briefly run the engine with the fan belt(s) removed and see if the noise goes away.
Have you been keeping up with your maintenance per your manual?
