My 2012 Ford Fusion SEL 2.5 l4 has 125k miles. The transmission on the car acts really odd. The car isn't smooth with anything. Whether it shifts from any gear mode such as Park to Drive or Drive to reverse the car has noticeable movement. Even in the gears the car makes it obvious it is upshifting occasionally. It never seems to do it on downshifts. We changed the transmission fluid with the OEM Motorcraft fluid a year ago, i dont think the fluid has been changed in this car, maybe once a long time ago, we've only owned it for 3 years. Recently, it seems to be occasionally slamming into gear when shifting from P to D or R to D. It did it for me once a few weeks ago and it did it again for my mom this week. Whats going on? What common problems does the 6F35 transmission have. It truely baffles me that Americans still struggle to make decent transmissions for cars lol.
Oh yeah it vibrates like h3ll in drive to the point where I shift in neutral every time im at a stop light, but I'm the only person in my family that does it 😆 😆
Sounds like the transmission has had it, after only 125k. Not shocking for a Ford Sedan, really.
I can't believe ford made these transmission's filters inaccessible. Truly blew my mind.
Sounds like the torque converter could be shot, shifting it into neutral disengages the torque converter, and if that smooths things out, then that can be a dead giveaway that it's bad. Any clunking noises? It's somewhat unlikely, but you may have a loose/ broken transmission or engine mount, that could cause the transmission to jerk into and out of all gears, and vibrate when it's engaged. Different gear ratios change the torque delivery to the wheels, and changing gears will make anything loose rattle or jump because the applied torque is changing. I would check those mounts. Does it feel like it's slipping? That would be an indicator of a bad tranny as well. If the tranny is indeed going out, it does somewhat surprise me for the mileage. My girlfriend's parents have put over 200k on their 2010 Focus with that same engine and transmission, it still shifts fine. The exhaust is messed up and the car vibrates a bit, but it's not tranny related.
I misread 2012 Fusion as Focus, sorry about that, lol. The engine and tranny are different from the Focus. The general idea is still the same.
I sure hope it is a mount, but I am a bit doubtful. Who knows though, could give it a look. It doesn't slip or clunk.
