74 F100 electronic ignition upgrade?

Hi there Scotty,

I recently bought a 1974 Ford F100 with V8 360 automatic transmission (my Christmas present) based on recommendations in one of your videos on indestructible trucks. Odometer has probably turned over a few times so I have no idea how many miles are on her. I'm currently doing some work to fix her up. She's running pretty good, at least good enough to drive around, but it could be better. One cylinder is not firing so she definitely needs a tuneup. I'm considering upgrading the points to electronic ignition. There's so many options out there I'm not sure which one to go with. Local parts store recommended Pertronix (part number 1281). A friend of mine has had trouble with that brand in one of his old VWs so I'm unsure I want to go with that brand. Any recommendations on best options for electronic ignition upgrade on my old Ford would be much appreciated. Due to the numerous choices that seem to exist, part of me is starting to think I should keep things simple by sticking with the old-fashioned points instead of messing with electronic ignition.

Best Regards,

Matthew

I tried Pertronix on one of my older vehicles and also had trouble with it, dead on the side of the road trouble. I wound up going back to points since it's a car that is used very little anyway and the points will last for years.
