Hey Scotty,

I’m the original owner of a 1986 GMC S-15 Jimmy 2.8L V6 Vin Code R with only 150,000 miles.  Like you Scotty, I’m 67 years old and I’ve done as much of my own work on the vehicle as possible over the years and I currently wish to do a complete fuel system rebuild from TBI to fuel tank, replacing or rebuilding as much of the remaining original parts or components as possible (most of which are original). My question regards the fuel pump.  I did replace the original factory pump myself in 2005 at 121,000 miles with an ACDelco OEM pump from the dealership and have only placed to this point about 30,000 miles on it and it still works great.  I NEVER run the tank below 1/2 full.  I absolutely know that is death for a fuel pump!  Given the 16 year age of the pump, BUT the low miles and never running it dry, would you suggest still replacing it while I got the tank down—as long as I clean the tank and put a new pick-up screen and new fuel filter in?  My fear is that even a new OEM from the dealership would not be as good of quality as the existing pump that still works, especially considering almost everything—even OEM—is made in China today!  And I’d like to save the $100 or so a new dealer OEM one would set me back!  Thanks for your input!
