I have a 89 Chevrolet caprice with a 350 engine. I have replaced the fuel filter and the fuel pump. I am still having the same problem though. Car runs fine when idling, however, when I put in in reverse it goes dead and I have to crank it several times and give it gas to back up. And when I put it in drive it jerks when accelerating then it will finally catch up.
Please don't shout at us in all caps.
sorry. wasnt meaning to shout
You might have a bad idle control valve or a clogged fuel injector.
I've replaced the idle control valve already. how do I check the fuel injectors?
One way to check the fuel injectors is get a metal rod and put it on the injector itself. Listen and see if you hear any clicking sound. If you hear any clicking sound, then you have a problem with the fuel injector. Do this for all 8 injectors.
@kp thank you for this information. You've been a big help already. 🙂
You're welcome. I'm always here to help.
