98 Crv dies at low rpms

1998 Honda CRV

205k miles

So it starts and dies right away but if I keep foot on pedal lightly doesn't die. So I can drive it around fine, but when I start to come to a stop, I have to lightly keep foot on accelerator while breaking to keep it from dying

Dies when I let rpms drop below 1.5k or 1k

Been driving around like this for days. And Runs fine.

I thought at 100 psi each it wouldn't run at all

That's enough compression for it to run - poorly. There are very old cars where the normal compression is less than that.

Check again with another tester and make sure you're doing the test properly but if you're really at 100 psi that engine is worn out. That's the way it goes when dealing with decades-old high-mileage beaters. You could also do a leakdown test to find where the compression is going.

The first thing I would look for would be a vacuum leak. The hose might come off. Our gasket might be sucking air. If not that you could try my video. Make your car run better with a little spray cleaner. It's on YouTube

Recently did a compression test, all cylinders came out to about 100psi

Which I found very odd. No white smoke. Runs fine. Other than

Oil is full don't see leaks

At very low idle, Runs rough and will often shut off. So been running it with one foot lightly tapping accelerator and other one on brake to keep it from dying out.

Thought was a vacuum leak or tps issue

My buddy said compression tester looks like seal on it was leaking a little bit.

But do my symptoms sound like a bad engine

Low rpms, around 0.5-1k or so. Runs rough and often shuts off. Usually no engine lights. Have driven it all over, high speeds totally fine. No lack of power or anything. No white smoke or anything from tailpipe. Sometimes engine light comes on, for random cylinder misfire. But never blinks.

Often on cold start, will run rough even when adjusting throttle with food on pedal. But after I get going, it runs fine. But still gotta keep rpms above like 1k to keep it from dying out.

But high speeds and rpms over 1k Runs fine.

Awaiting to rent another compression tester maybe was that, But they have to get it shipped.

What your opinion? Ty
