Hey all - I have a 99 Tahoe 5.7 4x4. I’m having long cranks and then a start. It usually starts up after a long crank at first, if not then on the second or even third crank. I get the smell of gas somewhat and hear the fuel pump prime. Sparks plugs are new and air seems fine.
Could it a be an ignition control module? Fuel pump? What are your thoughts?
What results do you get when you scan for codes and live data?
@chucktobias I’ve gotten P1404 & P0442. Last I checked P1404 EGR was gone, so only P0442. Small EVAP leak.
What do fuel trims look like?
Check the fuel pressure with a gauge you can rent at AutoZone. There's a Schrader valve on the fuel rail that you can hook up to. It should read 60 PSI.
When was the last time the fuel filter was replaced? Some trucks of that era feature fuel filters that are outside the gas tank. My old Ranger has the fuel filter external to the fuel tank.
