Hello Scotty and everyone

Currently I want to buy a car with automatic transmission for my family. I don't drive the car too much. maybe only 11,000 kilometers per year with 60% stop and go city driving and 40% highway driving. I need your advice, is the 2006 Toyota Corolla 1.8 liter 1ZZ-FE or 2005 Honda Accord 2.4 liter K24 should I buy? taking into account the aspects of comfort and reliability of course. Thank you

I would consider the Corolla. The Accord you consider has transmission issues. Make sure you have the car checked by your mechanic before purchase.

the guy is talking about kilometers not miles so i guess he means a different Acoord. The european Accord is known in the USA as Acura TSX. If with manual transmission should be trouble free. It is alot more expensive than a Corolla though. I have a friend who is selling used cars, specifically japanese ones, and he said the most known issue on the Accord is with the power steering and of course the automatic transmission if it has one.

9th gen Corolla ain’t great, and neither is the 7th gen Accord - the Accord is better than the Corolla because the ZZ engine is known for oil consumption.

But 10th and 8th are both great (not in the first production year)

HI! Dan,Every one to their option on 9TH gen or 7th Accord?Clearly i'm a 04 9th gen & loved this car for over 19 years with OUT one drop of oil loss. maybe 9th Gens built outside of Japan "JTD" could have been prone to oil loss? i wouldn't label ALL 9th gens with the same brush.To be fair i can't comment on 7th Accords either, as I've never driven or owned one. with over 45million 9th sold worldwide the japs got something right?

@normdownunder What???
"Accord is better than the Corolla because the ZZ engine is known for oil consumption"
means:
"7th gen Accord = good, 9th gen Corolla = burns oil"

The european Accord is known in the USA as Acura TSX

As far as reliability and the transmission reliability differences between the US Accord and Euro Accord,

It's the same as the JDM/Euro accord and it's reasonably reliable as far as I know.

Honda's 5 speed auto is very odd. It's closer a manual than a conventional automatic.

It's a manual, but instead of using shift forks to engage gears they use clutch packs,

Expect reverse gear which is done exactly like on a manual / AMT / DCT (a fork engaging a dog clutch gear)

And instead of a clutch, it uses a torque convertor with a wide range of locking control.

It's not the greatest out there, but with good and frequent service they go for a while.
