Hello Scotty,
I own a 2003 Toyota Vios E with an automatic transmission. The mileage is approximately 140,000 km.
Recently, I noticed that during cold engine in morning driving, the transmission delays shifting from 3rd to 4th gear for around 3–4 minutes.
After the car has warmed up, the transmission shifts normally for the rest of the day. This problem was not present a year ago, when the transmission shifted promptly even in the morning.
Additional details:
- The ATF appears pink, and the level was normal when checked warm.
- I believe the ATF is genuine Toyota Type T-IV, changed approximately two years ago.
- The problem appeared several months ago, around the time the battery was replaced following a battery failure.
- A mechanic performed a test drive later in the day and did not notice abnormal shifting.
- No gearbox scan has been performed yet.
What should I do?

Have a pro scan it with this transmission scanner to see if perhaps a shift solenoid is wearing out. If not that it's wearing internally and you can add something like lubeguard which can help things shift better when pouring the transmission
