A/C cuts off at high speed

Hey y'all!

I've got a 06 Ford Ranger 138k mi. automatic transmission. When I get on the highway at 60mph my a/c cuts off an starts blowing outside air through the defrost. An as soon as I lower my mph below 60 it kicks right back in. Do I have a vacuum leak, or what could it be? Thanks!!

Your A/C maybe going out I would take it to a repair shop or mechanic and have them take a look at it and see what is wrong with it, It could just be a bad fan or blower hope this helps.

@ToyotaFan101

Anyway I could diagnose the problem at home? I like working on my vehicles as much as possible. Maybe look for a special tool that's not too expensive to find out whats going on??

Unfortunately its going to be tough to try to fix this yourself considering it only happens when your on the freeway and that's not the place to be working on your AC lol.

You could always test the blend door but its tricky to get to since its normally tucked inside the dash. Best off taking it somewhere since is it still working but only goes out at high speeds. Darn AC gremlins

@jacksonishere
Sometimes you can't fix them all. Thank you!

Your AC compressor seems to act up at higher temperature. I agree with Jacksonishere because you need live data to see what’s happening at the time that the ac does not work.

I recommend having someone with proper gauges test the system pressures. This is a very common symptom for a system that has become low on charge. Also remember if you have a low charge on the system then there is a leak and would require further repairs. That is unless you just do like most who don't feel like dumping a bunch of money and just add charge as needed.
