Should my friend buy a local or imported Lexus?

Topic starter

My friend who lives in Maryland is trying to get an SUV to use on the weekend and occasional road trip. His uncle has a 2014 Lexus GX460 with 44000 miles with no problems what so ever and he is selling it to him for 13500 dollars because he bought a brand new Lexus LX570, but his older brother who is living in Japan due to his job has a two vehicle a 2019 Toyota prado with the 4 cylinder diesel and a 2021 Lexus GX 570 with a 6 cylinder diesel, his brother said to get the 7k for shipping it to the us since he got the contacts to do so. His question is should he buy the GX460 from his uncle or get the GX570 from his brother. What should he do. Ps he got 15k dollars saved

For heavy usage, stay local. MUCH easier and cheaper to get parts for the local stuff vs imported.

I would get the Lexus in the US. Finding parts and experts on the Toyota diesel engine is not fun for a person who lives in the US. On the other hand, his uncle is giving him a great deal.

The thing is he can get those parts since his brother got connections to get the parts if needed

My 2 cents. Get the 2014 Lexus GX460 with 44000 miles on it. It's barely broken in. Why complicate your life with importing stuff that may need "connections" to get parts.

If it’s going to be used heavily, I recommend going with the GX460 for ease of repair & service.

On the other hand, if it’s going to just be a weekend toy with very little usage, get whichever one he fancies.
