AC noise

Topic starter

2007 Volvo V70 T2.5.

AC was working fine then there was a loud noise that I thought was the blower motor bearing starting to fail.

The noise stopped just as suddenly and then no AC. It was not the blower motor, obviously, not the serpentine and the compressor doesn't make noise when engaged. What else in the AC system can make a noise like that when failing? 😕 .

Thanks

Could be the compressor maybe or the blower motor resistor maybe

Could a resistor cause the AC fail? The sound lasted a minute or two then nothing, no cooling. The compressor still runs but totally silent. The sound seemed to come from under the dash.
Thanks for your suggestions resistor?

If it's coming from under the dashboard and is not noise from the compressor that just sounds likes it's coming from there the only other thing left is the blower motor.

Could a resistor cause the AC fail?

You need to be more specific. When you say the AC "failed" and there is "no cooling" do you mean that no air at all is blowing out of the vents? (HVAC blower not working?) Or does warm air blow out?

A bad resistor could cause the blower motor to not operate, however it would not make any noise.
