Hello, I have a 2001 manual mazda miata with 100k miles. When I turn on the ac, there is a loud screeching noise coming from the engine bay that stops but randomly screeches again as I drive. It only happens when I turn on the ac. I recently changed all the belts thinking that's what it was but it continues, what could it be

Is your belt tensioner OK and if manually adjusted is the belt tension set correctly? Better check that compressor. If that's what's making the noise the AC won't work for long and if the compressor locks up metal shards will contaminate the entire AC system requiring most parts to be replaced ($$$$).
